The Texas Bred Incentive Fund is an escrow fund in the state treasury for distribution to breed registries (horse and greyhound) for the Texas-bred program.
A portion of breakage from horse and greyhound racing is deposited into the fund along with 1% of certain horse and greyhound multiple wagering pools from live races and 1% from simulcast races.
Each fiscal year, the Texas Legislature appropriates funds derived from the wagering activities at Texas-licensed racetracks as set forth in the Texas Racing Act.
Eligible breed registries may apply for funds from this program to encourage the breeding of Texas-bred horses and provide purse supplements to horses that finish in the top three places at Texas Racetracks.
